Police Arrest Additional Suspect in Kerala Spa Assault Case

Police in Kerala have apprehended another suspect linked to a serious case involving the sexual assault of a spa employee. The incident, which reportedly occurred on February 1, 2024, in Thiruvalla, has led to multiple arrests as authorities continue their investigation.

The latest arrest involves Varun Kumar, a 36-year-old resident of Niranam in Pathanamthitta district. Kumar is associated with a gang allegedly led by Subin Alexander, who is accused of assaulting the spa employee at knifepoint after she refused to provide him with money. This incident has raised significant concerns about safety and crime in the area.

Authorities had previously registered a case against six individuals in connection with this assault. Following the initial reports, police arrested both Alexander and his close aide, Berlin Das. The investigation has now expanded, with Kumar being taken into custody on February 8, 2024. A police team acted on a tip-off regarding his whereabouts, leading to a raid in Aluva, near Kochi.

During the operation, police successfully located and detained Kumar, who is now being interrogated by a special investigative team. The police also confirmed that they are actively searching for three other suspects: Sajin, Prashob, and Kiran. Authorities suspect that two of these individuals may have fled the state, prompting searches to be conducted in neighboring Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Kumar is expected to be presented before a court as part of the remand process shortly. The ongoing investigation underscores the seriousness of the allegations and the commitment of law enforcement to bring all responsible parties to justice. Police officials have emphasized their determination to resolve the case thoroughly and swiftly, ensuring the safety of the community.
