The five-time champions, Mumbai Indians, began their preparatory camp for the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season on March 27, 2026. This marks the start of intensive training as the team gears up for the tournament, which kicks off on March 28. The initial group of players to arrive for training included Shardul Thakur, Mayank Markande, Allah Ghazanfar, and several others, while prominent figures like Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and skipper Hardik Pandya are expected to join shortly.

Energy and Intent on Day One

Head coach Mahela Jayawardene expressed enthusiasm about the first day of pre-season training, emphasizing the excitement that comes with the arrival of players. “There’s always something special about the first day of pre-season. You see the players walk in, the energy builds, and the objective is to start strong,” he noted. He highlighted the importance of establishing a positive tone for the entire campaign right from the outset.

“We wanted everyone to feel the intent from the very first session, in how we train, how we prepare, and how we show up for each other,” Jayawardene added. The initial training session was structured to include a comprehensive fitness and conditioning block. The strength and conditioning team guided players through various movement drills, agility work, and fitness assessments to ensure they are game-ready.

Looking Ahead to the Season

Last season, the Mumbai Indians reached the playoffs, showcasing their competitive spirit and resilience. Looking ahead, they will open their 2026 IPL campaign against the Kolkata Knight Riders on March 29 at the Wankhede Stadium. As the squad continues to come together, the focus remains on building team chemistry and preparing for the challenges that lie ahead in the high-stakes tournament.

The Mumbai Indians, known for their strong franchise culture and fan support, are keen to leverage their experience and the new talents joining the team as they aim for another championship title in IPL 2026.
