Kentucky Mother Ashley Pruitt Among Six US Service Members Killed in Iraq Crash
A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to support the family of Ashley B. Pruitt, a Kentucky mother who tragically lost her life in a plane crash in Iraq. Pruitt was one of six American service members who died when a KC-135 aerial refueling tanker crashed on March 12, 2024. The campaign has already raised over $50,000 to assist her family during this difficult time.
Pruitt, 34, was stationed at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, and was a member of the 6th Air Refueling Wing. She enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in the spring of 2017 and had a deep passion for her role as a boom operator. According to the GoFundMe page, she was known for her dedication to her work and her commitment to supporting her fellow airmen.
The page outlines Pruitt’s family life, noting that she lived in Bardstown with her husband, their three-year-old daughter, and her stepson. It emphasized her dedication to both her family and her military career, stating, “Ashley took great pride in her work and in supporting the mission every day.” The fundraising effort aims to help her family cope with the financial strain following her untimely death.
The plane crash incident is currently under investigation. Pruitt’s passing marks a significant loss for her community, as she is the second Kentucky resident to die as part of Operation Epic Fury, an ongoing military operation involving the United States and its allies. Just days earlier, on March 8, Sgt. Benjamin Pennington, 26, from Glendale, was killed after sustaining injuries from an attack on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia.
Officials from Kentucky have expressed their condolences and highlighted Pruitt’s sacrifice. Representative Candy Massaroni and Senator Jimmy Higdon released a joint statement, noting, “The sacrifice made by Ashley and her fellow service members is a powerful reminder that the freedoms we enjoy at home are safeguarded by brave Americans willing to place themselves in harm’s way.” They praised her commitment to her country and the profound impact her loss will have on those who knew her.
The GoFundMe campaign continues to gain traction as community members and friends rally to provide support for Pruitt’s family. As tributes pour in from across the nation, her legacy as a dedicated service member and loving mother is being honored by those she touched in her life.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with authorities working to uncover the circumstances that led to this tragic event. As more information becomes available, the military community and the public will continue to remember the bravery of those who serve and the sacrifices they make for their country.
