Indore’s Dr Pankaj Singhai Wins International Physician Scholar Award
Dr Pankaj Singhai, a prominent figure in the medical community of Indore, has been awarded the prestigious International Physician Scholar Award by the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM). The award ceremony took place during the academy’s annual conference in San Diego, California, on March 15, 2024. This recognition highlights Dr Singhai’s significant contributions to the field of hospice and palliative medicine.
Currently serving as the head of the Palliative Care Unit at Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences (SAIMS) in Indore, Dr Singhai has dedicated his career to enhancing the quality of life for patients facing serious illnesses, including cancer and kidney diseases. He earned his MD in Palliative Medicine from Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, one of India’s leading cancer treatment centers.
Dr Singhai’s extensive research focuses on pain management and improving the overall well-being of patients. His work has led to numerous publications in both national and international medical journals, and he has presented his findings at various global medical conferences. The International Physician Scholar Award is particularly notable, as it was awarded to only two doctors from India this year, with Dr Mujeeb Rahman of the Institute of Palliative Medicine in Kozhikode being the other recipient.

The International Physician Scholar Award acknowledges physicians worldwide for their exceptional contributions to hospice and palliative care. Dr Singhai expressed his gratitude for this recognition, stating that it underscores the increasing global acknowledgment of the vital role palliative care plays within modern healthcare systems.
