Meta Pauses Global Launch of Ray-Ban Display Glasses Due to Demand
Meta has announced a delay in the international rollout of its Ray-Ban Display glasses, primarily due to high demand in the United States and supply constraints. The company planned to launch its augmented reality smart glasses in markets such as the UK, France, Italy, and Canada early this year, following a successful introduction of earlier models.
In a statement released on January 6, 2024, Meta indicated that it would focus on fulfilling orders in the U.S. while reassessing its strategy for international availability. The inventory for these glasses, described as a “first-of-its-kind product,” is currently very limited. The company noted, “Since launching last fall, we’ve seen an overwhelming amount of interest, and as a result, product waitlists now extend well into 2026.”
The Ray-Ban Meta glasses, developed in partnership with EssilorLuxottica, allow users to take photos, stream content, and interact with an AI assistant. This innovative product has garnered significant attention, prompting Meta to accelerate production capacity to meet rising demand.
Enhancements and Future Features
At the annual Consumer Electronics Show held in Las Vegas, Meta unveiled new features for the Ray-Ban glasses as well as its Meta Neural Band wrist device. One of the highlighted enhancements is a teleprompter feature, enabling users to read notes while scrolling through them with the wristband.
Additionally, Meta is expanding its pedestrian navigation capabilities, adding four new cities—Denver, Las Vegas, Portland, and Salt Lake City—to its existing roster, increasing the total to 32 cities. These developments reflect Meta’s commitment to enhancing the user experience of its smart glasses as well as its broader technology ecosystem.
The pause in international expansion underscores the challenges faced by tech companies in balancing supply and demand, particularly for innovative products that capture consumer interest. As Meta navigates this landscape, the focus remains on meeting existing U.S. orders while planning for future international availability.
