Godrej Consumer Projects Double-Digit Growth Amid GST Easing
Godrej Consumer Products Ltd. has announced expectations of double-digit growth for the October-December quarter, attributing this optimistic forecast to a reduction in disruptions caused by the Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms. The company’s confidence comes as inflation shows signs of decline, and GST rates have been lowered, making products more affordable for consumers.
In an update released on Tuesday, the company stated, “We remain confident of a gradual improvement in consumption over coming quarters, supported by falling inflation and improving affordability following lower GST rates.” This sentiment reflects a positive outlook for the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector, which has faced challenges in recent months.
Impact of GST Reforms on Consumer Behavior
The second quarter of the fiscal year saw several FMCG companies, including Godrej, facing temporary sales disruptions. Many consumers postponed purchases following announcements made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Independence Day regarding GST rate cuts. These new rates took effect on September 22, 2025, leading to heightened demand as consumers adjusted their buying patterns in response to the changes.
According to the quarterly update, Godrej Consumer Products recorded a 4% increase in revenue during the July-September quarter. This figure positions the company well as it anticipates further growth in the upcoming months. In contrast, smaller rival Dabur Ltd. has projected a more modest revenue growth in the mid-single digits, a slight improvement from the 3% growth noted in the previous year.
Market Reactions and Stock Performance
On the same day as the earnings update, shares of Godrej Consumer rose by 0.79%, closing at ₹ 1,253.65 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). This performance occurred despite the benchmark Sensex declining by 0.44% to settle at ₹ 85,063.34.
The resilience of Godrej’s stock reflects investor confidence in the company’s ability to adapt and thrive amid changing market conditions. Known for its popular brands such as Cinthol soaps and Goodknight mosquito repellent, Godrej Consumer is well-positioned to capitalize on improving market dynamics as consumer spending gradually recovers.
As the company moves forward, stakeholders will be closely monitoring how these trends develop and impact overall sales performance in the FMCG sector. The combination of reduced GST rates and falling inflation may signal a turning point for consumer behavior, suggesting a potential rebound in spending in the months to come.
