Indian Embassy Advises Caution for Nationals in Israel Amid Tensions
The Embassy of India in Tel Aviv issued an urgent advisory on February 28, 2024, recommending that Indian nationals in Israel exercise heightened caution due to escalating tensions following Israel’s military strikes on Iran. The advisory emphasizes the need for vigilance in light of the current security situation in the region.
Israeli forces conducted what they described as “pre-emptive” strikes, resulting in reported explosions in Tehran and other Iranian cities. Iranian state-affiliated media confirmed multiple blasts in the capital, prompting Israeli authorities to declare a state of emergency. Sirens were activated in various locations throughout Israel as a precautionary measure.
Emergency Measures in Place
In response to the situation, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) urged residents to remain near protected spaces to mitigate risks associated with potential missile retaliation from Iran. As a further precaution, Israel closed its airspace to civilian flights. Iranian airspace was also temporarily shut down through a Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM), leading to the diversion of multiple flights away from Tel Aviv and Amman. Several aircraft en route to Tehran were forced to turn back.
The Indian Embassy’s advisory strongly urged nationals to adhere to the safety instructions provided by Israeli authorities and the Home Front Command. Updated guidance can be accessed at oref.org.il/eng. The Embassy advised Indian citizens to stay close to designated shelters and to familiarize themselves with the nearest protected spaces, whether at home or work.
Nationals were specifically instructed to avoid all non-essential travel within Israel until further notice. Citizens are encouraged to stay informed by regularly monitoring local news and official announcements, as well as emergency alerts.
In emergencies, Indian nationals can reach the Embassy’s 24/7 helpline at +972-54-7520711 or via email at [email protected]. The Embassy stated it remains in close contact with relevant authorities and will provide updates as necessary to ensure the safety of Indian citizens in Israel.
