Woman Arrested for Smuggling Cocaine Hidden in Bread
A 29-year-old Nigerian woman, identified as Olajide Ester Ianuoluwa, was apprehended by the Bengaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) for smuggling cocaine concealed within loaves of bread. Officers from the CCB’s Anti-Narcotics Branch acted on a tip-off that enabled them to seize 121 grams of cocaine, with an estimated street value of Rs 1.2 crore (approximately USD 145,000).
The operation revealed that Ianuoluwa transported the drug-laden bread from Mumbai to Bengaluru using interstate private buses. Following her arrival in India on a student visa in 2022, she reportedly did not attend any educational institution. Instead, she relocated to various suburbs in Mumbai, including Ghatkopar and Nalasopara, where she allegedly began engaging in drug sales.
Details of the Arrest and Smuggling Route
Authorities believe Ianuoluwa received the cocaine from a male associate in Mumbai, with instructions to deliver it to a compatriot residing in Bengaluru. This method was allegedly chosen to minimize detection risks associated with postal shipments. CCB officials monitored her movements and detained her upon her arrival in the Varthur area of Bengaluru, where she was reportedly set to meet a local drug buyer.
In the course of this operation, a Nigerian buyer from the Varthur area was also detained and subsequently deported from India. This incident marks a significant step in the CCB’s ongoing efforts to dismantle international drug trafficking networks operating within the country.
Ongoing Crackdown on Drug Trafficking
The CCB has emphasized that this operation is part of a broader strategy aimed at combating the rampant issue of drug trafficking in India. The authorities are committed to tackling these illegal networks, which pose serious threats to public safety and health.
As drug-related crimes continue to rise, law enforcement agencies are intensifying their focus on dismantling such operations, highlighting the importance of vigilance and cooperation among various enforcement bodies to curb the influx of illegal substances.
