India Celebrates Storytelling Legacy at Republic Day Parade

The Republic Day parade in New Delhi showcased India’s cultural heritage and modern advancements, featuring the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s tableau titled “Bharat Gatha: Shruti, Kriti, Drishti.” This presentation highlighted the evolution of storytelling in India, tracing its roots from ancient oral traditions to contemporary cinema. The tableau illustrated India’s journey as a global content leader, merging its rich civilizational heritage with cutting-edge technology.

In collaboration with renowned filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the tableau brought to life various storytelling forms, including folklore and epics. The segment featured the vocal performance of acclaimed singer Shreya Ghoshal, who contributed to the musical element of the tableau with the song ‘Bharat Katha.’ This initiative emphasized cinema as a continuation of India’s storytelling legacy and its significance in the global cultural landscape.

The tableau depicted a progression of storytelling techniques, beginning with the guru-shishya parampara (teacher-student tradition) and culminating in a display of a cinema hall and a video camera showcasing popular Indian films. This comprehensive representation not only celebrated India’s artistic achievements but also underscored its commitment to maintaining a vibrant narrative tradition.

Panchayati Raj Ministry Highlights Rural Empowerment

The parade also featured the Panchayati Raj Ministry with a tableau focused on the SVAMITVA Scheme, which aims to empower rural communities through legal property ownership. The theme, “SVAMITVA Scheme: Aatmanirbhar Panchayat se Samriddh evam Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” underscores the government’s dedication to strengthening local governance and enhancing citizen participation.

Approximately 450 elected representatives from Panchayati Raj Institutions and Rural Local Bodies participated as special guests, reflecting the significance of grassroots democracy in India. Since its inception, the SVAMITVA Scheme has facilitated the issuance of nearly three crore property cards across 1.84 lakh villages, significantly reducing land disputes and fostering planned rural development.

The tableau effectively illustrated how property rights can empower rural citizens, leading to more robust local governance. This dual emphasis on storytelling and rural empowerment at the Republic Day parade demonstrates India’s commitment to honoring its cultural legacy while advancing towards a more inclusive future.
