Ramiz Raja Defends Chucking Controversy Amid Cameron Green’s Gesture
During a recent T20 International match between Pakistan and Australia, former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja ignited controversy by defending what some describe as “chucking” from a bowler, while simultaneously criticizing Australian all-rounder Cameron Green for his gesture after being dismissed. This incident occurred on January 31, 2026, during the second T20I match held in Lahore.
The incident unfolded when Green was dismissed trying to attack spinner Usman Tariq. After being caught out by Shadab Khan, Green was seen making a gesture suggesting that Tariq’s bowling action was suspect. This moment was broadcast live, prompting Raja, who was providing commentary at the time, to respond with a sharp critique of Green’s actions.
Raja’s Response and Implications
Raja stated, “Well, you have to deal with it. It’s as simple as that. That is the wrong way of looking at things,” emphasizing his view that players should not complain about opponents’ bowling actions. His comments have raised eyebrows, especially in light of ongoing scrutiny regarding Tariq’s bowling technique, which has faced criticism in the past, including during the Pakistan Super League.
Green’s dismissal came in the 12th over of the match after he scored a quickfire 35 runs off 20 balls. The response from the cricketing community is now focused on how the International Cricket Council (ICC) will address this incident, particularly given the heightened attention to bowling actions in the sport.
Upcoming T20 World Cup Matches
Looking ahead, the Pakistan cricket team is gearing up for the upcoming T20 World Cup, with their campaign set to begin on February 7, 2026, against the Netherlands. Following that match, they will face the USA on February 10, culminating in a highly anticipated clash against India on February 15. Reports indicate that travel arrangements for the team have already been made, although official confirmations regarding their participation have yet to be announced.
The cricketing world will be watching closely as both the ICC’s response to Raja’s comments and the performance of the Pakistan team in the T20 World Cup could have significant implications for the future of cricket in the region.
