Ishan Kishan Suffers Injury in Nets Ahead of T20 World Cup Match
India’s star cricketer Ishan Kishan faced a serious injury scare during practice ahead of the team’s crucial match against Namibia in the T20 World Cup 2026. During a net session at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on February 12, 2026, he was struck on the toe by a fast yorker delivered by Jasprit Bumrah. The incident raised immediate concerns among the Indian camp, already dealing with other injury setbacks.
Kishan’s injury comes at a challenging time for the defending champions, who have struggled with player health in the tournament. Previous illnesses had sidelined both Bumrah and Abhishek Sharma, further complicating the team’s strategy. With the match against Namibia scheduled for February 13, the Indian team management is on high alert.
As Kishan writhed in pain after the delivery, medical staff quickly attended to him, and Bumrah himself ran to check on his teammate. The moment was captured on video and circulated widely on social media, heightening the anxiety of fans and team officials alike.
Fortunately, Kishan later returned to the nets to resume batting alongside Sanju Samson, looking significantly more comfortable. His potential absence would be a severe blow to India’s lineup, particularly as they prepare for an upcoming clash with arch-rivals Pakistan.
Kishan, valued at ₹11.25 crore by Kavya Maran’s Sunrisers Hyderabad for the IPL 2026 season, had recently made a strong comeback into the Indian team. His performance during the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy 2025, where he scored 517 runs at an impressive strike rate of 197.3, solidified his position as a key player. He also made a significant impact in a recent series against New Zealand, scoring his maiden T20I century and contributing to his team’s success.
If Kishan cannot recover in time for the Namibia match, potential replacements could include Washington Sundar, who may step in as an opening partner for Samson. The situation remains fluid, and the Indian team is keenly monitoring Kishan’s recovery.
As the T20 World Cup progresses, the stakes are high for Team India, who aims to overcome the odds and defend their title amidst growing challenges. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as developments unfold in the coming days.
