Petition Filed in High Court for Vigilance Probe Against Engineer
A petition has been filed in the High Court of Goa seeking a comprehensive investigation into allegations against Principal Chief Engineer Uttam Parsekar. The petition, submitted on January 29, 2024, demands that the Directorate of Vigilance carry out an independent and timely inquiry into complaints that have already been lodged against the senior official.
The petitioners, Mahesh Patel and Lata Dattaram Desai, assert that they provided detailed accounts of serious allegations but have seen little to no action from the relevant authorities. They argue that the lack of response necessitates judicial intervention to ensure transparency and accountability within the administrative framework.
In addition to seeking a vigilance inquiry, the petition calls for the court to instruct the Goa government to refrain from extending service or granting any benefits to Parsekar while the investigation is ongoing. This request highlights concerns regarding potential administrative inaction and aims to ensure that the complaints are addressed fairly and without unnecessary delays.
The petitioners emphasize the importance of accountability in public service, arguing that unchecked power can undermine the trust of citizens in governmental institutions. They are urging the High Court to take swift action to protect the integrity of the investigation process and uphold the principles of justice.
This legal move reflects growing public demand for accountability among government officials, especially in light of previous instances where similar allegations have gone unaddressed. The outcome of this petition may set a significant precedent for how such cases are handled in the future.
As the situation develops, it remains to be seen how the High Court will respond to the petition and whether it will lead to a formal investigation by the Directorate of Vigilance. The court’s decision could have far-reaching implications for governance and public trust in the region.
