Karnataka and Assam Leaders Clash Over Semiconductor Investments

A heated exchange has unfolded between Karnataka’s IT Minister Priyank Kharge and Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding the allocation of semiconductor investments. Kharge contended that the government is pressuring semiconductor companies to establish operations in Gujarat and Assam, despite their interest in Karnataka’s robust engineering talent and ecosystem. He stated, “All the investments meant for Karnataka are being arm-twisted by the central government.”

In a swift rebuttal, Sarma branded Kharge as a “first-class idiot” and suggested that his remarks insulted the educated youth of Assam. Sarma escalated the situation by threatening legal action against Kharge for his comments, and criticized the Indian National Congress for failing to denounce Kharge’s statements. He tweeted, “Son of @INCIndia President, Priyank Kharge, has insulted Assam’s youth, and Assam Congress doesn’t even have the courage to condemn him.”

Kharge did not back down, accusing Sarma of attempting to deflect attention from his own administrative shortcomings. He urged Sarma to reflect on the reasons behind the outmigration of young people from Assam in search of better job opportunities. Kharge remarked, “The only thing Mr. Sarma has managed to grow is his own wealth.”

As the exchange intensified, the Assam BJP joined the fray, mocking Kharge’s approach. They responded with a jibe: “Hello, Teddy Boy,” suggesting that writing extensive posts on social media does not equate to expertise. They further criticized Kharge, stating that he should focus on addressing poverty issues in his own district, which reportedly remains one of the poorest in South India.
