Marian Wall-Grotto Inaugurated at St Antony Church in Mangaluru
On January 6, 2024, St Antony Church in Anthonykatte, Mangaluru, celebrated a significant milestone with the inauguration and blessing of the Marian Wall-Grotto. The event drew a large assembly of parishioners, benefactors, and devotees, all eager to mark the occasion with a sense of spiritual joy and community.
Community Celebration and Blessing Ceremony
The solemn Holy Mass was officiated by Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the bishop emeritus of the Mangalore diocese. In his homily, he emphasized the importance of devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, encouraging attendees to find inspiration in her life characterized by humility, obedience, and unwavering faith.
Following the Mass, the Marian Wall-Grotto was officially inaugurated by generous donors Roy Prakash and Cheryl Simson. Their contribution to the parish was met with heartfelt gratitude, as the congregation acknowledged their commitment to enhancing the spiritual growth of the community. The grotto now serves as a beacon of prayer, hope, and Marian devotion for the parish.
Felicitation and Fellowship
A felicitation program followed the blessing ceremony, where dignitaries were welcomed to the dais. Fr Francis Rodrigues, the parish priest, expressed his appreciation to the bishop emeritus, the donors, and all those involved in organizing the event. The celebration included a formal recognition of Roy Prakash and Cheryl Simson, led by Rajesh D’Costa, vice president of the Parish Pastoral Council.
Furthermore, the Simson family was honored, with Samuel Simson and Yohan Simson receiving accolades for their contributions to the community. The event was attended by other notable figures, including Sujatha D’Souza, secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council, and Felix Mathias, Gurkar of Fathima Ward.
Adding a personal touch to the gathering, the parish celebrated the birthday of Samuel Simson, which was warmly acknowledged by the attendees. The parish also took this opportunity to express gratitude to Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza for his ongoing guidance and presence within the community.
The evening concluded with a fellowship dinner, fostering unity among participants. Wilfred Mathias served as the program’s compere, while the Anthonykatte Choir Group enhanced the atmosphere with melodious singing, contributing to the festive spirit of the occasion.
