Devotees Invited to Submit Original Songs for Sabarimala Playlist
Devotees of Lord Ayyappa are now invited to contribute their own original devotional songs to the playlist of the Sabarimala temple. The initiative, announced by the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), aims to diversify the musical offerings at this revered hill shrine located in Kerala, India.
Currently, the temple features a selection of devotional songs primarily performed by renowned artists such as K. J. Yesudas and Jayavijaya. The new initiative will allow ordinary devotees to submit their compositions for consideration, broadening the range of music played through the temple’s public address system.
Under this program, the TDB has established a clear submission process for devotees wishing to contribute. Each submission must include an affidavit and a consent letter, jointly signed by the lyricist, composer, and singer. This documentation will confirm that the song is an original creation and free from any copyright claims.
Submissions should be made on a pen drive and delivered to the TDB official at the sannidhanam, or temple complex. Once received, the board will conduct a thorough examination of the entries. Selected songs will then be added to the official playlist that accompanies the temple’s daily rituals.
The daily musical schedule at Sabarimala features significant pieces, including “Vande Vighneswaram,” which marks the opening of the sanctum at dawn, and “Harivarasanam,” which concludes the day’s ceremonies. The temple also reopens at 15:00 with the song “Sreekovil Nada Thurannu,” performed by Jayavijaya. The new devotional songs will be integrated into the program, filling the gaps between announcements for pilgrims.
This move not only encourages participation from the community but also enriches the spiritual experience for visitors to Sabarimala. By allowing devotees to share their personal expressions of faith, the TDB aims to create a more inclusive atmosphere in one of India’s most prominent pilgrimage sites.
The initiative reflects a growing trend among religious institutions to engage more with their communities, allowing for greater representation and diversity in worship practices. As the temple management board reviews submissions, devotees are encouraged to be part of this unique opportunity to contribute to Sabarimala’s musical heritage.
