BSF Celebrates Diamond Jubilee with Motorcycle Rally in Tripura
The Border Security Force (BSF) organized a motorcycle rally on March 15, 2024, in Tripura to commemorate its Diamond Jubilee. The event aimed to raise awareness about the BSF’s role in national security and inspire local youth to consider careers in the force and other uniformed services. A total of 55 bikers participated in the rally, which was flagged off from the BSF camp in Salbagan at 07:00 hours by Aloke Kumar Chakraborty, Inspector General of the BSF Tripura Frontier. The rally concluded at the Sector Headquarters in Gokulnagar, where it was welcomed by Anurag, the Director General of Police for Tripura, at 08:15 hours.
During the rally, the DGP recognized the BSF’s unwavering commitment to combating trans-border smuggling and drug trafficking. This initiative highlighted the BSF’s dedication to community engagement and its historical legacy in safeguarding the nation.
Significance of the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations
The Diamond Jubilee and Raising Day celebrations took place at the BSF Headquarters in Salbagan, Agartala, where Inspector General Chakraborty paid heartfelt tributes to personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty since the force’s establishment in 1965. He emphasized the day’s emotional and historical importance, referring to the BSF as the youngest among India’s armed forces.
“This day is special for us. The BSF is the youngest force of India, and we are celebrating its legendary creation,” he stated. Chief Minister Manik Saha attended the event, demonstrating the state’s support for the BSF. His attendance, despite prior commitments, underscored the importance of the relationship between the government and the border security force.
The Chief Minister also honored veterans of the 1971 War and the families of fallen personnel, expressing gratitude for the BSF’s efforts in maintaining peace along the India-Bangladesh border. He released the Frontier’s annual magazine, Gajraj, during the ceremony.
BSF’s Role and Achievements in Securing the Border
The BSF Tripura Frontier is tasked with securing a critical and porous stretch of the India-Bangladesh border, where it plays a vital role in curbing cross-border crime, illegal infiltration, and smuggling. Since its inception, the BSF has remained committed to its motto “Jeevan Paryant Kartavya,” which translates to “Duty till Life.”
In 2023, the Tripura Frontier enhanced its border vigilance, successfully rescuing 1,830 cattle and seizing significant quantities of contraband, including Phensedyl, ganja, Yaba tablets, gold, sugar, and arms, as well as Bangladeshi currency and other items valued at over ₹51 crore. The force also apprehended 57 Rohingya migrants, 628 Bangladeshi nationals, and 280 Indian nationals during its operations.
Enhanced collaboration between the BSF, Tripura Police, and various agencies has led to effective joint operations, including the destruction of over 31 lakh illegally cultivated ganja saplings across 452 acres. The BSF also engaged with local communities through medical camps, skill development initiatives, and awareness drives, reinforcing its commitment to welfare and security in the region.
The BSF Tripura Frontier reiterated its dedication to safeguarding the international border and advancing the welfare of the state, emphasizing the importance of national unity through various community programs, including sports events and cultural initiatives. Regular meetings with the Border Guard Bangladesh have further strengthened cross-border coordination, addressing bilateral issues effectively.
This motorcycle rally and the associated celebrations reflect the BSF’s enduring legacy and its ongoing mission to protect India’s borders while fostering community ties and support for the force.
