Woman Alleges Abandonment by Husband After Cancer Diagnosis
A 22-year-old woman in Bengaluru has reported her husband to the North Women Police, claiming he abandoned her following her cancer diagnosis. The woman alleges she faced ongoing cruelty, humiliation, and body shaming from her in-laws during this challenging period.
The couple married on March 5, 2023, with her family reportedly spending nearly Rs 13 lakh on the wedding, which included gold and silver ornaments. According to her complaint, the situation deteriorated significantly after her cancer diagnosis, with her husband and in-laws failing to provide the necessary care and support. Instead, they allegedly subjected her to severe mental cruelty, making derogatory comments about her hair loss and referring to her as an “evil spirit.”
The woman claims that her husband’s behavior worsened when he began a relationship with another woman. He allegedly justified this by expressing concerns that her illness might “spread” to him and his family if she remained in their household.
Previously, she approached the Peenya Police, where a non-cognisable report (NCR) was filed on February 18. Despite the initial report, the harassment continued, prompting her to file a fresh complaint with the North Women Police. She is now seeking legal action against her husband and in-laws.
After the first information report (FIR) was registered, the accused was summoned for questioning. Reports indicate that he refused to accept responsibility for her care, instead seeking a divorce based on her illness.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing, according to a senior police officer. The case raises significant concerns about the treatment of individuals facing health crises within marital relationships and the societal pressures surrounding such situations.
