Bihar Launches Doorstep Healthcare for Senior Citizens
Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has unveiled a new healthcare initiative aimed at delivering essential medical services directly to elderly citizens’ homes. Announced on January 3, 2024, this program is part of the state government’s broader Saat Nischay initiative, which focuses on improving living conditions across the region.
Under this scheme, senior citizens will have access to a range of medical services in the comfort of their homes. These services will include nursing assistance, pathology tests, blood pressure monitoring, ECG tests, physiotherapy, and emergency medical support. This initiative aims to ensure that elderly individuals can receive timely healthcare without the need to travel.
In a post on X, Kumar emphasized the government’s commitment to facilitating access to healthcare for those in need. He directed the health department to prioritize the swift implementation of this scheme to ensure that it reaches senior citizens throughout the state as soon as possible.
Nitish Kumar reflected on the administration’s journey since he took office on November 24, 2005. He noted that the government has consistently focused on uplifting people from all walks of life, adhering to the principle of development with justice. “We have considered the entire Bihar as our family and have taken care of everyone’s honour and respect,” he stated.
The chief minister also highlighted the launch of the Saat Nischay-3 program, which aims to position Bihar as a developed state by the end of the decade. The core objective of this third phase, termed ‘Sabka Samman–Jeevan Aasaan’, is to enhance the ease of living for all citizens.
In an effort to promote community involvement, Kumar invited suggestions from the public on additional measures that could improve the lives of senior citizens. Citizens can share their ideas via email at [email protected] or through traditional mail.
The Bihar cabinet has recently approved the implementation of Saat Nischay-3 for the period from 2025 to 2030, with the goal of establishing Bihar among the developed states. The state has already made significant progress with the successful implementation of the first two phases of the Saat Nischay program since its inception in 2015.
This new healthcare initiative represents a critical step forward in addressing the needs of the elderly population in Bihar, ensuring that they receive the medical attention they require, right at their doorsteps.
