Sharib Hashmi Reflects on Rejected Roles in Major Bollywood Films
Actor Sharib Hashmi recently shared insights into his experience of missing out on significant roles in two of Bollywood’s blockbuster films, Sanju and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. In a candid interview, he expressed that these rejections have left a lasting impact on his career, serving as lingering regrets.
During the discussion, Hashmi revealed that he auditioned multiple times for the role of Kamli in Sanju, a biopic directed by Rajkumar Hirani that was released in 2018. Ultimately, the role went to Vicky Kaushal, whose performance was highly praised for its emotional depth. Hashmi reflected on this experience, saying, “One big regret I have is Sanju. For the role of Kamli, I was shortlisted, and the process lasted quite some time. So that remains a regret.”
The film, featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Sanjay Dutt, garnered significant acclaim and box office success. The character Kamli, inspired by Dutt’s real-life friend, became a standout aspect of the movie.
Hashmi’s aspirations didn’t stop there. He also auditioned for a role in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, where Nawazuddin Siddiqui eventually portrayed the quirky Pakistani journalist, Chand Nawab. “I went through a few rounds of auditions, but that’s a matter of destiny,” Hashmi added, illustrating the unpredictable nature of casting in the film industry.
Career Highlights
Despite these setbacks, Sharib Hashmi has made a significant mark in the entertainment industry. He gained fame for his role as JK Talpade in the web series The Family Man, which starred Manoj Bajpayee. His performance resonated with audiences, establishing him as a prominent figure in the Indian streaming landscape.
In addition to his work in web series, Hashmi recently appeared in the film Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, a spy comedy produced by Aamir Khan and directed by Vir Das. He also starred in the romantic drama Gustaakh Ishq, produced by Manish Malhotra, alongside actors Vijay Varma and Fatima Sana Shaikh.
Hashmi’s creative journey has expanded beyond acting. He has returned to writing, collaborating with Tannishtha Chatterjee on a stage play, marking an important milestone in his theatrical pursuits.
Looking ahead, Hashmi is set to appear in Welcome To Jungle, an ensemble film featuring notable stars such as Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Raveena Tandon. As he continues to navigate the industry, Hashmi’s reflections on past rejections serve as a reminder of the challenges that many actors face in their careers.
