Canal Inspector Found Dead in Alibaug Dam, Investigation Underway

A canal inspector from the water conservation department in Karjat, identified as Vijay Kakde, was found dead in the Tinvira Dam located in Alibaug on the morning of March 15, 2024. The 43-year-old was a resident of Pimplebhat village. Locals discovered his body floating in the dam, prompting them to alert the Poynad police.

Upon arrival, law enforcement officials retrieved the body and transported it to a local civil hospital for an inquest. Following the necessary procedures, the body was released to Kakde’s family for the final rites. Although the circumstances surrounding his death are currently unclear, local authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the reasons leading to this tragic incident.

The police have officially registered the case as an accidental death. As the investigation unfolds, community members and officials alike are left seeking answers.
