Naidu Promises Development and Stability Inspired by Gujarat Model
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced plans for a stable government focused on development in Andhra Pradesh, taking inspiration from the “Gujarat model.” Speaking at the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) headquarters in Vijayawada on Sunday, Naidu marked the death anniversary of the party’s founder, N.T. Rama Rao, with floral tributes and a commitment to expanding welfare initiatives.
Welfare Initiatives and Housing Goals
Naidu revealed a significant welfare push that includes opening an additional 700 Anna Canteens, building on the existing 200 locations serving affordable meals. He also set an ambitious deadline for the housing department, aiming for the ‘Gruhapravesam’ (housewarming) of 500,000 homes by the upcoming Ugadi festival, which falls on March 29, 2024.
During his address, Naidu criticized the opposition, specifically targeting Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, president of the YSR Congress Party (YSRC). He accused the opposition of engaging in “credit theft” by misrepresenting key development projects such as Greenko, Bhogapuram Airport, and Amaravati. Naidu dismissed Reddy’s remarks regarding capital location as irresponsible, questioning, “If someone stays in Bengaluru, does it become the capital?”
The Chief Minister emphasized that the people of Andhra Pradesh had rejected the YSRC’s “three capitals” proposal by voting decisively for the NDA alliance across all three regions of the state. He urged TDP supporters to affirm Amaravati as the state capital, asserting that there is no place for rowdyism in governance.
Fiscal Responsibility and Development Projects
Addressing the broader issues of governance, Naidu highlighted the government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility while expanding welfare programs. He noted that pensions have increased from ₹35 to ₹4,000 and that Anna Canteens now provide meals at a nominal cost of ₹5. Naidu announced plans to establish these canteens in every constituency, reinforcing the government’s dedication to social welfare.
Naidu reiterated that despite financial constraints, the three-party government is committed to fulfilling its promises made during the 2024 elections. He mentioned the increase in pensions, the recruitment of personnel in various sectors, and ongoing initiatives to combat youth unemployment. The Chief Minister also pointed out the scrapping of the land titling Act and the implementation of blockchain technology to enhance transparency and prevent record tampering.
On infrastructure and irrigation, Naidu reaffirmed the goal of “water for every acre,” stating that major projects are progressing swiftly. He projected the completion of the Polavaram Project by June 2027 and emphasized the importance of river interlinking projects in securing the state’s water supply without compromising regional interests.
In the power sector, Naidu assured that electricity tariffs would remain stable, citing efforts to reduce procurement costs to alleviate the financial burden on consumers.
Naidu’s address reflects a focused agenda aimed at fostering development while addressing opposition criticisms. His government’s initiatives, particularly in welfare and infrastructure, are designed to enhance the quality of life for residents of Andhra Pradesh.
