Air India and IndiGo Halt Flights to Middle East Amid Tensions
Indian airlines Air India and IndiGo have suspended all flight operations to and from the Middle East due to escalating regional tensions. The suspension affects travel to key destinations and is a response to significant developments that have raised safety concerns in international airspace.
In a travel advisory posted on X, Air India confirmed that it has canceled all flights to Middle Eastern destinations until 23:59 hours on March 1, 2026. The airline emphasized its commitment to passenger safety, stating, “We are closely monitoring developments and remain in continuous coordination with the relevant authorities. The safety and security of our passengers, crew, and aircraft remain our highest priority.” Affected passengers are being notified and provided assistance, including options for rebooking and refunds. The airline also encouraged travelers to check their flight status through its website or its 24-hour call center.
IndiGo has announced a similar suspension, halting flights to and from the Middle East and select international sectors until March 1, 2026. The airline cited the evolving situation surrounding Iran and the broader Middle East as the driving force behind this decision. In its advisory, IndiGo described the suspension as a proactive safety measure and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to its customers. The airline is offering full flexibility for travel plans to and from the affected regions, allowing for full refunds or rescheduling at no extra cost for bookings made before February 28, 2026.
These cancellations occur amid heightened conflict in West Asia, particularly following joint military actions involving Israel and the United States targeting Iranian sites. This escalation has prompted retaliatory threats and the closure of airspace over Iran, Israel, and Iraq. Consequently, major international air corridors that airlines typically use for routes between India and Gulf countries are now disrupted.
Airlines across the country are responding to these developments by rerouting or canceling flights as necessary. Both Air India and IndiGo are maintaining close communication with aviation authorities to ensure passenger safety. They have established help desks at airports to assist those affected by the cancellations.
As the situation evolves, both airlines indicate they will continue to assess the developments and will resume services when safe corridors become available. Passengers are encouraged to stay informed through official channels to receive the latest updates regarding their travel plans.
