Ryan Gosling Revealed in First Look for Star Wars: Starfighter

Ryan Gosling is officially joining the Star Wars universe with the upcoming film Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy. On Wednesday, Levy surprised fans by sharing the first image of Gosling in costume during the film’s production. The photo features Gosling alongside co-star Flynn Gray, set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Mediterranean Sea. Levy’s post was captioned, “Somewhere in the Mediterranean Sea #Starfighter.”

Scheduled for release on May 28, 2027, the film was announced earlier this year at the Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo. This latest installment will unfold five years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which premiered in 2019. While specific plot details remain under wraps, the film is touted as a stand-alone story featuring new characters.

During an April fan event, Gosling expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “The reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters.” He praised the film’s combination of heart and adventure, adding, “There just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.”

The cast of Star Wars: Starfighter includes notable talents such as Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams. The screenplay is penned by Jonathan Tropper, with Levy and Kathleen Kennedy serving as producers. Levy has been developing the project since 2022, with a proven track record including Disney’s Deadpool & Wolverine and Netflix‘s The Adam Project.
