Over 1,500 Join Yellow Ribbon Run in Hyderabad to Raise Awareness
More than 1,500 participants took part in the 3rd edition of the Yellow Ribbon Run held in Hyderabad this March. Organized by the Endometriosis Foundation of India, the event aimed to raise awareness about endometriosis, a health condition affecting approximately 1 in 10 individuals globally, similar in prevalence to diabetes and asthma.
The run featured multiple categories, including 10-kilometer, 5-kilometer, and 3-kilometer distances, and took place at T-Works, a notable venue in the city. Founded by Dr. Vimee Bindra, the Endometriosis Foundation is the first organization in India dedicated to educating the public about this often misunderstood and misdiagnosed condition.
Dr. Bindra expressed her gratitude for the enthusiastic turnout, noting, “We are happy to see so many young enthusiasts taking part in the run to create awareness on endometriosis.” She emphasized the importance of the event, highlighting that over 42 million women in India are affected by endometriosis. The foundation’s goal is to advocate for increased investment in research and development, as well as to foster partnerships with policymakers and stakeholders.
The event garnered support from prominent figures, including Mohammed Azharuddin, the Honorable Minister for Minority Welfare and Public Enterprises in Telangana. “I am happy to be at this event. Congratulations to all the participants,” he remarked, commending the collective effort to raise awareness. He assured that the Telangana government will extend necessary support to address issues related to endometriosis.
In a statement that resonated with attendees, Poonam Malakondaiah, a former Chief Secretary and current national monitor for education and literacy in the National Human Rights Commission, emphasized the importance of education regarding endometriosis. She stated, “I am glad to be part of this great initiative on Women’s Day to create knowledge on endometriosis.”
The Yellow Ribbon Run not only promoted physical activity but also served as a platform for dialogue surrounding a condition that significantly impacts individuals’ mental, personal, and professional lives. As public awareness grows, the hope is that more resources will be allocated to support those affected by endometriosis, fostering a community that understands and addresses this critical health issue.
