Afghanistan Issues Strong Warning to Pakistan Amid Rising Tensions

The Afghan government has issued a fierce warning to Pakistan, signaling a potential escalation in military tensions between the two nations. Following airstrikes conducted by Pakistan that reportedly resulted in civilian casualties in Afghanistan, Kabul has announced that it will take “decisive action” if such operations continue.

During a press conference, spokesperson for the Afghan government Zabihullah Mujahid stated, “We have targeted important military targets in Pakistan, and this sends a message that our hand can reach their necks.” This statement underscores Afghanistan’s willingness to retaliate against perceived threats from its neighbor.

Ongoing Military Operations

Mujahid confirmed that Pakistani reconnaissance aircraft continue to operate within Afghan airspace, just hours after the airstrikes occurred. Key cities, including Kabul and Kandahar, were reported as sites of the attacks. Despite these aggressive actions, Mujahid expressed a desire to seek a peaceful resolution through dialogue, reflecting a complex approach to the ongoing conflict.

In discussing Afghanistan’s regional relationships, Mujahid stated, “We have good relations with India, but these are never against Pakistan, and the Islamic Emirate is never in anyone’s power or hand.” This assertion seeks to clarify that Afghanistan’s partnerships should not be viewed as hostile toward Pakistan.

Military Leadership Responds

Further escalating the rhetoric, Fasihuddin Fitrat, Chief of General Staff of the Afghan Armed Forces, emphasized that any violation of Afghan territory by Pakistan would elicit a strong response. “We will respond to a finger with a fist,” he remarked, highlighting Afghanistan’s resolve to defend its sovereignty. Fitrat warned that Pakistan would not find safety in its major cities should it attempt to destabilize Afghanistan.

The current situation marks one of the most severe conflicts between Afghanistan and Pakistan in recent years. Pakistan has accused the Afghan Taliban of harboring and supporting militant groups such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a claim that the Taliban has consistently denied.
