The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) has officially announced the schedule for the Class 9 and Class 11 annual examinations for 2026. The exams will take place from March 7 to March 19, with results expected to be released on March 25. This adjustment aims to ensure the timely start of the academic session for 2026-2027, which is set to commence on April 1.

The Directorate of Secondary Education has made these changes to the examination timeline to facilitate a smooth transition into the new academic year. The RBSE has also revised the schedule for Class 5 and Class 8 examinations. The Class 5 Mathematics exam will now occur on March 6 from 13:30 to 16:00. Class 8 exams are scheduled between February 19 and March 4, while Class 5 exams will run from February 20 to March 6. Notably, students with hearing impairments will receive an additional 50 minutes to complete their exams.

Changes in Promotion Policy

In a significant policy shift, the Rajasthan Board has eliminated the automatic promotion system for students in Class 5 and Class 8. This decision is aimed at enhancing educational outcomes and reducing dropout rates. According to the RBSE, the previous practice of automatic promotion led to a lack of seriousness among students regarding their studies, which ultimately hindered their performance in higher classes.

The board’s official statement indicates that from now on, students must achieve a minimum passing mark to be promoted. Those who do not meet this requirement will have the opportunity to retake the exam within 45 days. Additionally, the RBSE plans to implement special remedial teaching to assist students in improving their scores.

“The implementation of this new system will increase accountability for students, teachers, and parents,” the statement read. “The department believes that this will lead to better monitoring of studies and improve the academic level of the children.”

These changes reflect the board’s commitment to fostering a more rigorous educational environment, emphasizing the importance of student performance and engagement. The RBSE aims to create a system where academic diligence is rewarded, ultimately benefiting students as they progress through their educational journeys.

As the RBSE moves forward with these changes, it remains to be seen how these policies will impact student performance and motivation in the coming years.
