Chennai Singams Triumph Over Ahmedabad Lions to Reach ISPL Final
Chennai Singams secured their place in the final of the Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) by defeating the Ahmedabad Lions by five wickets on March 15, 2024. The match, held in Surat, showcased a dominant bowling performance from the Singams, effectively derailing the Lions’ innings early on.
The Lions struggled from the outset, with their opening pair, Sikandarbhai Bhatti and Prathamesh Thakre, dismissed for ducks within the first three balls of the match. This early collapse set a challenging tone for the Lions, who found themselves under immense pressure. Singams’ fast bowler Ashish Pal emerged as the star of the show, claiming three crucial wickets and leading his team’s attack.
Despite a brief resistance from Birendra Ram, who managed two sixes in a 13-run cameo, the Lions could not regain momentum. The Singams maintained control, with Jagannath Sarkar conceding only five runs while taking two wickets, further stifling the Lions’ efforts. Anurag Sarshar also proved effective, adding two more wickets to the tally.
The Lions’ innings concluded at a mere 57 runs in just 9.4 overs, a disappointing total that underscored their struggles against the Singams’ formidable bowling attack.
Chennai made their intentions clear in response, with Ketan Mhatre hitting 23 runs off just nine balls, setting a rapid pace for the chase. Aman Yadav contributed an unbeaten 22 runs from 11 balls, guiding his team to victory alongside Sarfaraz Khan. The Singams completed the run chase with two overs to spare, finishing at 61 for five.
With this victory, the Singams advance to the finals, while the Lions will have another opportunity to vie for a spot in the championship through Qualifier 2. The performance of the Singams, particularly their bowling attack, has established them as serious contenders in this season’s ISPL.
