Kianna Underwood, a former child star on Nickelodeon, was tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident on March 15, 2024, in Brooklyn, New York. The 33-year-old actress was crossing an intersection in the Brownsville neighborhood when she was struck by a black Ford Explorer SUV. Reports from the New York Police Department (NYPD) indicate that she was subsequently hit by a second vehicle, a black-and-gray sedan, which fled the scene. Underwood was pronounced dead at the scene.

The tragic circumstances of her death have drawn attention not only to the incident itself but also to her struggles in recent years. According to Angelique Bates, a fellow Nickelodeon alum, Underwood had been homeless for several years prior to her death. Bates had publicly appealed for help on Underwood’s behalf, expressing concern for her former co-star’s well-being and urging others to provide support.

In November 2023, Bates took to Instagram to share a heartfelt plea, stating, “She’s one of us, and she needs help, but she’s not getting it. Nobody’s speaking on Kianna Underwood.” Bates reflected on the camaraderie that existed among cast members during their time on the show, contrasting it with their distance in the years that followed.

Authorities reported that Underwood was crossing Pitkin Boulevard at Mother Gaston Boulevard early on Friday when she entered the crosswalk against the traffic signal. The initial collision was with the SUV, which caused her to fall onto the roadway. The second vehicle then struck her, dragging her several hundred feet. Surveillance footage captured the horrifying moment, revealing a person being pulled underneath the vehicle as it sped away.

Underwood gained fame for her role in the final season of Nickelodeon’s sketch comedy series “All That,” appearing in seven episodes between 1999 and 2005. Following her passing, Bates shared a poignant message on social media, expressing her grief: “Y’all have no idea how much this one hurts… Sick to my stomach… So many people failed baby girl.”

Investigators continue to seek information about the two vehicles involved in the incident and are urging anyone with details to come forward. The tragic loss of Kianna Underwood highlights not just the dangers of reckless driving but also the pressing issues of homelessness and the need for community support for vulnerable individuals.
