Traders from the Shaher-e-Khaas region of Srinagar have introduced a wall calendar for 2025 that emphasizes the area’s historic landmarks and cultural heritage. The calendar was officially launched by Nazir Ahmad Shah, President of the Shaher-e-Khaas Traders Alliance, on January 11, 2024.

The calendar features striking photographs of iconic sites in Srinagar, including the Jamia Masjid, Old Zaina Kadal Bridge, and Budshah’s Tomb, alongside images of the famed Dal Lake and traditional houseboats. A notable inclusion is the listing of Iftar and Sehri timings for the upcoming holy month of Ramadhan. Additionally, it provides details about gazetted holidays for the year.

Promoting Heritage and Culture

During the release event, Shah expressed that the calendar serves as a gift from the traders of Downtown Srinagar. He stated, “The main objective behind the calendar is that it highlights historical places of Srinagar, especially Downtown. We have also carried photographs of our dried vegetables and Samovaor, which are part of Srinagar’s rich culture.” This initiative aims to enhance awareness among tourists about the historical and cultural significance of the region.

Shah emphasized the importance of sharing this cultural heritage with the wider community. He mentioned that free copies of the calendar will be distributed to anyone interested, including individuals, corporations, and tourists. Those wishing to acquire a copy can visit the traders’ office at Zaina Kadal or contact the office directly at 9906704901.

Encouraging Tourism

The launch of the calendar reflects a broader effort to promote tourism in Srinagar by showcasing its historical sites and rich traditions. By providing essential information about local customs, the traders hope to attract visitors and enhance their understanding of the area’s significance.

The initiative not only highlights the beauty and history of Srinagar but also underscores the community’s commitment to preserving and sharing their cultural identity. As tourism begins to recover, such efforts are vital in ensuring that both locals and visitors can appreciate the unique heritage of this stunning region.

The calendar release stands as a testament to the local traders’ dedication to their community, fostering a greater appreciation for Srinagar’s past while looking towards a more connected future.
