Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to unveil a monumental 77-foot bronze statue of Lord Ram on Friday at the historic Shree Samsthan Gokarn Jeevottam Mutt in South Goa. According to Shrinivas Dempo, chairperson of the mutt’s central committee, the Prime Minister will arrive at the venue at 15:45 (local time). A special helipad has been constructed within the mutt premises to accommodate his arrival.

Following a visit to the temple located on the site, Modi will address a public gathering. The statue, designed by renowned sculptor Ram Sutar, who also created the Statue of Unity in Gujarat, is set to become the tallest statue of Lord Ram globally, as confirmed by Goa’s Public Works Department Minister Digambar Kamat.

Significance of the Unveiling Ceremony

The unveiling ceremony is part of a larger celebration marking 550 years of the mutt’s tradition, with a series of programmes scheduled from November 27 to December 7. The mutt, situated in Partagal village in Canacona, has a rich history, having been established 370 years ago and serving as a key spiritual centre for devotees. Kamat has indicated that the entire premises have undergone refurbishment to present a modern aesthetic for this landmark occasion.

An estimated 7,000 to 10,000 devotees are expected to visit the mutt daily during the festivities, highlighting the significance of this event for the local community and the wider spiritual landscape. The gathering will also include notable figures such as Governor Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Union Minister Shripad Naik, and other state cabinet ministers.

The unveiling of the statue not only celebrates the cultural heritage of the region but also underscores the importance of Lord Ram in the spiritual and historical context of India. As the event approaches, excitement builds among the local population and visitors alike, eager to witness the inauguration of such a significant monument.
