PM Modi Set to Attend Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana in Udupi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his honour in participating in the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme at Sri Krishna Matha in Udupi, Karnataka, scheduled for November 28, 2023. This significant event will assemble around 100,000 participants, including students, monks, scholars, and various members of society, to recite the Srimad Bhagavad Gita collectively.
In a statement shared on the social media platform X, PM Modi emphasized the importance of the gathering. He remarked, “This is a special gathering that brings together people from different sections of society for a recital of the Gita. This Matha has a very special significance in our cultural life.” He highlighted the contributions of Sri Madhvacharya, who founded the Matha over 800 years ago, noting its role in serving society and its cultural relevance.
In addition to participating in the recital, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Suvarna Teertha Mantapa, located in front of the Krishna sanctum. He will also dedicate the Kanaka Kavacha, a golden cover for the sacred Kanakana Kindi, which is traditionally believed to have allowed the saint Kanakadasa a divine view of Bhagwan Krishna.
Following his visit to Karnataka, PM Modi will travel to Goa on the evening of November 28. His itinerary includes attending the 550th-year celebration of the Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math in Canacona, Goa. During this event, he will unveil a remarkable 77-foot statue of Lord Shri Ram made of bronze and inaugurate the ‘Ramayana Theme Park Garden,’ an initiative developed by the Math.
The Prime Minister is also set to release a special postal stamp and a commemorative coin during the celebration, which will further underscore the cultural significance of the event. Additionally, he will address the gathering, offering insights and reflections on the occasion.
The Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math holds a prominent place in the Gowd Saraswat Brahmin Vaishnava community and adheres to the Dvaita philosophy established by Jagadguru Madhvacharya in the 13th century. The Math is located in Partagali, a small town on the banks of the river Kushavati in South Goa, and serves as a spiritual and cultural center for followers of this tradition.
As the Prime Minister prepares for these significant engagements, the events in both Udupi and Goa are expected to foster community spirit and highlight India’s rich cultural heritage.
