The Chairman and Managing Director of the Singareni Collieries Company (SCCL), N. Balaram, has been appointed as a member of a national committee focused on the identification and exploration of critical minerals. This announcement was made by the NITI Aayog on October 12, 2023, highlighting the recognition of the state’s ongoing efforts in critical mineral exploration.

Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, the Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana, stated that the state prioritizes the exploration of critical minerals and is encouraging government enterprises to actively participate in this sector. Ongoing discussions with countries such as Australia, Russia, and Ghana aim to expand business opportunities in the critical minerals market. The Deputy Chief Minister mentioned that agencies have been engaged to study the potential of this vital sector. Recently, SCCL took part in a critical minerals exploration auction organized by the central government.

In addition to its exploration efforts, the state has successfully secured licenses for gold and copper exploration, further solidifying its commitment to developing this industry.

Joint Energy Project with Rajasthan

In a related development, Deputy Chief Minister Vikramarka announced that the Rajasthan cabinet has approved a joint project between SCCL and Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited. This initiative involves a significant 2,300 MW thermal and solar power project aimed at benefiting both states while contributing to national energy requirements.

The agreement will expedite land allotment for a 1,500 MW solar plant in Rajasthan, known as the Rajasthan Solar Valley project. Additionally, an 800 MW power plant will be established on the site of the existing Singareni Thermal Power Plant near Mancherial.

The strategic collaboration between SCCL and its partners underscores the importance of addressing the growing energy demands in India while promoting sustainable practices in the energy sector. These initiatives not only enhance the state’s economic prospects but also align with the national goals of energy security and sustainable development.
