Young Lion King Star Imani Dia Smith Dies at 25 from Stabbing
Imani Dia Smith, the talented actress known for her role as Young Nala in Disney’s *The Lion King*, has tragically died at the age of 25. Authorities found Smith with multiple stab wounds at a residence in Edison, New Jersey, on Sunday, following a 911 call reporting the incident. She was pronounced dead after being transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
As investigations continue, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that Smith’s boyfriend, Jordan D. Jackson-Small, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Additional charges include second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, according to Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Edison Police Department Chief Thomas Bryan.

The news of Smith’s death has shocked her family, friends, and the broader community. Her aunt, Kira Helper, expressed deep sorrow on a GoFundMe page created to support Smith’s family. “She leaves behind a 3-year-old son, her parents, her two younger siblings, and an extended family, friends, and community who loved her so very much,” Helper wrote. The fundraising effort aims to honor Smith’s memory and assist her loved ones during this difficult time.
Smith’s vibrant spirit and immense talent were celebrated in the GoFundMe statement, which described her as “a vivacious, loving and fiercely talented person.” Her performance in *The Lion King* showcased her abilities as a “true triple-threat performer,” illuminating the joy and creativity she shared with audiences.
The community is now grappling with the loss of a promising young artist whose life was cut short. As the investigation unfolds, many are left reflecting on the impact Smith had on those around her, both personally and professionally.
