Trump Blames Zelenskyy and Biden for Ongoing Ukraine Conflict

Former US President Donald Trump has renewed his criticisms of both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and current President Joe Biden, attributing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine to their leadership. His comments come in response to Ukraine’s discontent regarding a peace proposal he recently outlined. Trump stated that the war between Ukraine and Russia could have been avoided with “strong and proper U.S. and Ukrainian leadership,” emphasizing that it was a failure of both administrations.

In a post on social media, Trump asserted, “The war between Russia and Ukraine is a violent and terrible one that, with strong and proper U.S. and Ukrainian leadership, would have NEVER HAPPENED.” He claimed the conflict began during Biden’s presidency, linking it to what he described as a lack of decisive leadership. The roots of the Russia–Ukraine conflict trace back to 2014, following protests in Kyiv that led to the ousting of President Viktor Yanukovych and Russia’s annexation of Crimea.

Fighting erupted soon after in eastern Ukraine, particularly in the regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, where Russian-backed separatists engaged in combat against Ukrainian forces. Despite attempts to broker peace through the Minsk agreements, violence persisted. In February 2022, Russia escalated the situation by launching a full-scale invasion, resulting in a prolonged conflict characterized by shifting battle lines and stalled diplomatic efforts.

Trump, who was not in office during the initial stages of the conflict, has repeatedly criticized Biden for allowing the situation to deteriorate. He stated, “Putin would never have attacked! It was only when he saw Sleepy Joe in action that he said, ‘Now is my chance!’” He further emphasized that he “inherited a war that should have NEVER HAPPENED,” underscoring the humanitarian toll with the assertion that many lives have been needlessly lost.

In his recent remarks, Trump also pointed to European nations that continue to purchase Russian oil, suggesting that these actions undermine sanctions intended to pressure President Vladimir Putin to cease hostilities. He expressed frustration over what he perceives as a lack of gratitude from Ukrainian leadership for the support provided by the United States. “UKRAINE ‘LEADERSHIP’ HAS EXPRESSED ZERO GRATITUDE FOR OUR EFFORTS,” he stated, while also accusing Biden of providing substantial military aid to Ukraine.
