Shinde Issues Warning to Officials Over Treatment of Shiv Sena Workers
Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, has issued a stern warning to officials regarding their treatment of Shiv Sena workers, emphasizing that any injustice towards them would not be tolerated. His comments came on November 29 during a rally in Phaltan, located in Satara district.
Shinde’s remarks were prompted by the recent registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against Nilesh Rane, an MLA from the Shinde-led faction of Shiv Sena. Rane allegedly trespassed into the home of a supporter of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming to have discovered bags of cash intended for distribution to voters ahead of the upcoming civic elections.
At the rally, Shinde urged officials not to heed what he described as “false complaints” against party members. He warned that those who act unjustly would face consequences. “I want to tell officers not to do any illegal work,” Shinde stated. “Do not pay heed to false complaints, and if anyone is pressuring you, then do not succumb to it. If you do injustice to our party workers then you have to deal with Eknath Shinde.”
The deputy chief minister further asserted his awareness of the underlying issues within the political landscape, stating, “I know who does what. I am quiet and let me be quiet. I know the secrets of everyone. I do not bother anyone; I do not needle anyone, but if anyone does it to me, then I do not spare him.”
Shinde’s comments highlight the growing tensions between his faction of Shiv Sena and the BJP, particularly as local body elections approach. The Shiv Sena has expressed dissatisfaction following reports that some of its workers in Thane district, a stronghold for Shinde, have switched allegiance to the BJP.
As the political climate intensifies ahead of the polls, the relationship between these two parties remains a focal point of concern, with officials now facing pressure to navigate these murky waters carefully.
