Killers of Rana Balachauria Traveled Across Six States to Evade Arrest
On December 15, 2025, Kanwar Digvijay Singh, known as Rana Balachauria, was shot and killed during a kabaddi match in Mohali’s Sohana area. Following the murder, the shooters orchestrated a complex escape plan, evading capture by traveling across six Indian states. The police have since launched a nationwide manhunt, piecing together the extensive route taken by the suspects.
According to Mohali’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harmandeep Singh Hans, the two primary suspects—Karan Pathak, known as Karan Defaulter, and Aditya Kapoor, also referred to as Makhan—initially fled the scene on a motorcycle. They quickly abandoned the vehicle with the help of accomplices to avoid detection. The investigation revealed their escape led them through Panipat, Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and ultimately to Kolkata.
The shooters began their journey in Panipat, where they switched to a taxi before heading to Delhi. From there, they boarded a train to Mumbai. After a brief stay, they traveled to Bengaluru for a short period before making their way back to Kolkata. In a strategic move to mislead law enforcement, they returned to Kolkata after a brief stop in Siliguri.
SSP Hans stated that the police were finally able to apprehend the suspects at Howrah Railway Station in Kolkata, thanks to a special team led by CIA Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajanparminder Singh. So far, the police have arrested nine individuals connected to the case, although one of the main shooters remains at large.
The arrested shooter, Karan Pathak (23), is a resident of Nimal Mandi in Amritsar and has ties to Uttar Pradesh. Alongside Aditya Kapoor, he is accused of firing multiple shots at Balachauria. SSP Hans disclosed that the conspiracy to kill Balachauria was planned in October 2025, with the shooters residing in various hotels in Chandigarh, Kalka, Zirakpur, and Kharar while preparing for the attack.
The police have identified several other key individuals involved in the conspiracy. Among those arrested is Tarandeep Singh (25), who was present near the crime scene and facilitated the shooters’ escape. Sukhsherpal Singh, known as Akash Uppal (22), is a relative of gangster Amarjit Singh, also known as Khabba, and played a significant role in planning the murder. Additionally, Davinder Singh, a cab driver from Panchkula, provided transportation for the accused.
Other suspects include Ashdeep Singh, Jugraj Singh, Mandeep Singh, and Gagandeep Singh, with another accused, Harpinder Singh, having been killed in a police encounter previously. SSP Hans noted that Balachauria had survived two previous assassination attempts at different locations.
The police continue to pursue the remaining suspects and the absconding shooter. All arrested individuals were presented in court on Wednesday and have been remanded into police custody for further investigation. The case highlights the extensive network of planning and execution involved in this high-profile murder, drawing significant attention from law enforcement agencies across the nation.
