Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gains power in Punjab in the upcoming 2027 elections, the welfare schemes currently being implemented in Haryana will also be introduced in Punjab. Saini made this statement during a visit to Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district, where he addressed the media.

During his visit, Saini emphasized that the welfare initiatives under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi have significantly benefited the people of Haryana. He expressed confidence that similar benefits could be extended to the people of Punjab if the BJP secures a victory in the next state elections. Saini has been actively promoting his governance model in Punjab, often wearing a turban during his visits to resonate with the local culture.

While discussing his recent budget presentation in the Haryana Assembly on March 2, 2024, Saini referenced the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev, stating the importance of “Kirat kar, Naam jap, Vand chhak,” which translates to earning honestly, remembering God, and sharing with others. This highlights his intention to align his political messaging with the region’s cultural and spiritual values.

Saini’s visit to Dera Baba Nanak was primarily to pay respects rather than engage in political activities. He responded to a question regarding the reopening of the Kartarpur corridor, which previously facilitated access between Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan and the Dera Baba Nanak shrine. He credited Prime Minister Modi for the initial opening of the corridor, which has been closed since May 7, 2025, following military actions by Indian forces in Pakistan.

The corridor holds significant importance for the Sikh community, as it connects the birth and final resting places of Guru Nanak Dev. In light of the ongoing tensions, Saini remarked, “Some things happen. Time will come. All things are in knowledge… some way, with the blessings of Guru Nanak, will come out.”

Saini also extended greetings to the people of Punjab on the occasion of Hola Mohalla, reinforcing his message of unity between the two states. He stated that Haryana and Punjab share a common cultural heritage and are intrinsically linked, noting, “On November 1, 1966, two brothers (Punjab and Haryana) were separated. Our festivals and culture are the same. Gurus’ blessings and teachings are guiding us even today.”

His remarks underscore a broader political strategy aimed at fostering goodwill and support in Punjab as the BJP prepares for the elections. Saini’s approach reflects a blend of cultural respect and political ambition, positioning himself as a leader who values the region’s historical significance while advocating for future development initiatives.
