FBI Disrupts Planned New Year’s Eve Bombing in Los Angeles
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has successfully disrupted a planned bombing attack for New Year’s Eve in Los Angeles, arresting four individuals linked to a pro-Palestinian group known as the Turtle Island Liberation Front. The agency stated that the suspects were preparing to execute improvised explosive device (IED) attacks at multiple locations across the city.
FBI Director Kash Patel announced the arrests on social media platform X, revealing that the agency acted on a credible and imminent threat. “Over the weekend, the @FBI disrupted a credible, imminent terrorist threat and arrested FOUR individuals connected to the Los Angeles area,” Patel stated. He described the Turtle Island Liberation Front as “pro-Palestinian” and “anti-law enforcement,” indicating the group’s radical stance.
The FBI reported that the suspects were allegedly planning to target five distinct locations throughout Los Angeles. Following the initial arrests, a fifth suspect was detained in New Orleans, believed to be associated with a radical subgroup of the Turtle Island Liberation Front and allegedly preparing for a separate violent attack.
Details of the Arrests
During a press conference, Bill Essayli, the head of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, revealed the identities of those arrested. The suspects are Audrey Carroll, aged 30; Zachary Aaron Page, 32; Dante Garfield, 24; and Tina Lai, 41, all residents of the Los Angeles area. Each has been charged with conspiracy and possession of an unregistered destructive device under Title 26 of the United States Code, section 586 1D.
Essayli noted that additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues. “We intend to file additional charges in the coming weeks as we finish reviewing the evidence,” he stated.
The Turtle Island Liberation Front
The Turtle Island Liberation Front is characterized as an anti-government and anti-capitalist organization with explicit plans for violence. Essayli outlined that the group had prepared detailed instructions for constructing IEDs, specifying multiple targets across Orange County and Los Angeles.
In a statement, Attorney General Pam Bondi reiterated the group’s intentions, stating that they were set to conduct bombings against various locations in California starting on New Year’s Eve. She emphasized the group’s focus on targeting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and their vehicles as part of their broader agenda. The arrests have raised significant concerns about domestic terrorism and the motivations behind such radical groups in the current political climate.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to assess the full extent of the threat posed by the Turtle Island Liberation Front and its members.
