Fatal Bus Crash Claims Four Lives, Injures 28 in Punjab
A tragic accident occurred in the Mandhali Mor area of Lodhran district, Punjab, on February 2, 2024, when a bus transporting wedding guests overturned after colliding with a truck. The incident resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including a child, and left 28 others injured.
According to a statement from Rescue 1122 Lodhran, the bus, described as a “high-speed coaster,” was involved in the collision while attempting to cross in front of an overloaded truck. The collision led to immediate fatalities, with the deceased comprising two men, one woman, and a child. The statement emphasized that 27 of the injured sustained serious injuries and were promptly transported to Lodhran District Hospital for treatment. One additional person received medical assistance at the scene.
Local authorities are taking the matter seriously. Ali bin Tariq, the Lodhran District Police Officer, arrived at the site shortly after receiving information about the accident. He stated, “Reasons behind the accident are being determined, and legal action will be taken against those responsible.” Investigations are ongoing, and further details about the incident are expected to be released soon.
This incident adds to a troubling trend of road accidents in Punjab. Last month, the province experienced several serious incidents, including a truck plunging into a dry canal in Sargodha, which resulted in multiple fatalities. In another incident near Ormara tehsil in Balochistan, a coach overturned, claiming the lives of at least 24 people and injuring over 20 others.
In a separate case days later, dense fog and poor visibility contributed to traffic accidents in Nankana Sahib and Sialkot, where five individuals, including a child, lost their lives. These recent occurrences highlight the pressing need for improved road safety measures in the region.
As authorities continue to investigate the latest accident in Lodhran, the community mourns the loss of those who perished and hopes for a swift recovery for the injured.
