Vishal Jayswal Shines with Key Wickets Against Kohli and Pant
During the recent Vijay Hazare Trophy match in Bengaluru, Gujarat’s Vishal Jayswal achieved a remarkable feat by dismissing prominent Delhi batters Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant. This performance not only showcased his skills as a left-arm spinner but also significantly impacted the match’s outcome.
Kohli, who has been in excellent form, continued his strong run in one-day cricket by scoring a brisk 77 runs. His innings included 13 boundaries and a six, from just 61 deliveries, resulting in a strike rate of 126.23. Kohli’s performance came after a spectacular century in Delhi’s opening match, which led to a decisive four-wicket victory over Services. Expectations were high for him to deliver again, and he appeared on track until Jayswal intervened.
In the 22nd over, Jayswal made a crucial breakthrough by having Kohli stumped by wicketkeeper Urvil Patel. This dismissal was pivotal, as it not only ended Kohli’s innings but also shifted the momentum in favor of Gujarat.
Jayswal’s impact did not stop there. He later dismissed Delhi captain Rishabh Pant, who was building a solid innings of 70 runs. In the 44th over, Jayswal struck again, leaving Pant out and further denting Delhi’s hopes. Additionally, he took the wickets of opener Arpit Rana and Nitish Rana, finishing with impressive bowling figures of 4 for 42 in 10 overs, marking his career-best performance.
This victory followed Gujarat’s earlier win against Services, where Jayswal took one wicket, contributing to an overall eight-wicket triumph. His performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy is drawing attention, particularly given his relatively recent entry into professional cricket.
Who Is Vishal Jayswal?
At 27 years old, Vishal Jayswal is making a name for himself in domestic cricket for Gujarat. He is primarily known as a left-arm spinner but is also a capable left-handed batter. Since making his professional debut in October 2022, he has played 11 first-class matches, 12 List A games, and 16 T20 matches.
Although his debut match was modest—he did not bowl and was dismissed for a golden duck while batting at number nine—Jayswal has since accumulated a total of 64 wickets across all formats, with 40 of those in first-class cricket. His batting abilities are also noteworthy, having scored a century and a half-century in first-class matches, as well as a fifty in List A cricket.
Jayswal’s recent achievements in the Vijay Hazare Trophy highlight his potential and skill, positioning him as a player to watch in the forthcoming matches. As he continues to develop his career, cricket enthusiasts and analysts are keen to see how he builds on this impressive start.
