VHP Calls for Bharat Ratna Honor for Veer Savarkar

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has formally requested the Indian government to award the prestigious Bharat Ratna to freedom fighter Veer Savarkar. This appeal coincided with the commemoration of Savarkar’s 61st death anniversary, observed with floral tributes at his statue in Kacheguda on October 26, 2023.

During the ceremony, VHP leaders highlighted Savarkar’s enduring legacy as a freedom fighter and a nationalist. Pagadakula Balaswamy, the State Dharmacharya Sampark Pramukh who led the event, emphasized the significance of Savarkar’s contributions to India’s struggle for independence. He specifically noted Savarkar’s experiences in the notorious Cellular Jail, where he faced severe hardships for his beliefs.

“Savarkar’s sacrifices in the Cellular Jail, enduring torture for Mother India’s glory, stand as an eternal inspiration,” Balaswamy stated. His remarks reflect a broader sentiment among VHP members who view Savarkar as a pivotal figure in India’s history.
