Rajouri Celebrates Women’s Day 2026 with Empowering Sports Events

On March 8, 2026, Rajouri marked International Women’s Day with a vibrant celebration featuring sports and fitness activities aimed at empowering women and girls. The event, held at the District Police Lines Rajouri, embraced the ASMITA League initiative, showcasing a series of competitions and awareness stalls designed to promote women’s participation in sports.

Empowering Women Through Sports

The celebration was organized by the District Administration Rajouri in collaboration with MY Bharat, the Sports Authority of India, and Khelo India Centres. Key officials, including Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma, DIG Tejinder Singh, and SSP Gaurav Sikarwar, attended the event, emphasizing the importance of encouraging women’s and girls’ active participation in various sports.

Competitions such as tug of war and races spanning distances of 100 meters, 200 meters, and 400 meters were enthusiastically contested. Participants were divided into three age categories: below 13 years, 13 to 18 years, and above 18 years. This structure ensured a broad representation of girls and women across different age groups, enhancing overall engagement in the sports activities.

Community Initiatives and Health Support

During the event, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the critical role that such platforms play in fostering confidence among girls and promoting a culture of equality. The initiative is part of a broader effort to create a meaningful nationwide celebration of women’s empowerment through sports and fitness.

In addition to sporting events, various departments set up awareness stalls to inform attendees about government schemes and services. A health camp was also organized, providing basic health check-ups and medical consultations for participants. Under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative, the Social Welfare Department distributed sports items to girls from local institutions, including the Gujjar & Bakerwal Hostel and EMRS Gurdan Bala, aimed at encouraging sports participation and building confidence among young girls.

Furthermore, a skill center for training girls in making Gojri caps was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner. The event also featured the distribution of sanction letters to 50 ASHA workers, who made significant contributions toward improving the girl child sex ratio and achieving zero maternal mortality in the year 2025-26.

As the program concluded, several women achievers from various fields were recognized and honored. Among those celebrated were women officers from the civil administration and police department, as well as members of Self Help Groups (SHGs). The event was attended by additional dignitaries, including Additional Deputy Commissioner Chander Prakash and Deputy Director of Employment Mohd Nawaz, all of whom reinforced the commitment to women’s empowerment in the region.
