Maharashtra Offers Rs 5 Lakh Aid to Families of Nagpur Blast Victims
A tragic explosion at an explosives factory in Raulgaon, Nagpur district, has resulted in the loss of 17 lives and left 18 others injured. In response to this catastrophe, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh for the next of kin of those who perished in the incident. The explosion occurred at SBL Energy Limited and has drawn significant attention from both local authorities and the state government.
Response and Rescue Operations Underway
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, in addition to the state compensation, the company involved will also provide financial support to the families of the deceased. Describing the incident as “extremely unfortunate and tragic,” Fadnavis confirmed that immediate rescue operations were launched following the explosion.
“I am in constant contact with the local administration,” Fadnavis stated. He noted that the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police quickly arrived at the scene, while teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were deployed to assist in the rescue efforts. Additional teams from the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO) and the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) also arrived to evaluate the situation.
Emergency services have been working diligently to transport the injured to hospitals in Nagpur for treatment. The Chief Minister expressed his condolences, paying tribute to the victims and emphasizing his hope for the swift recovery of those affected.
Eyewitness Accounts and Ongoing Investigations
The exact cause of the explosion has not yet been determined. Local eyewitnesses reported their attempts to assist in the rescue efforts. One individual shared their experience, stating, “I tried to pull out as many people as I could. We put them in our own cars to rescue them.” This demonstrates the community’s quick response and solidarity in the face of tragedy.
As investigations continue, local authorities are working to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the explosion at SBL Energy Limited. The police have confirmed the fatalities and are coordinating with state agencies to ensure that the affected families receive the necessary support.
This incident highlights the ongoing risks associated with industrial operations and the importance of stringent safety measures. The Maharashtra government is expected to conduct a thorough investigation to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
