Jaundice Symptoms Affect 22 in Indore’s Mhow; 8 Hospitalised

Health officials in Indore’s Mhow town confirmed that a total of 22 individuals are exhibiting symptoms of jaundice. Among these affected individuals, eight have been hospitalised for further treatment. This outbreak follows recent incidents of water contamination in the area, which have raised serious health concerns.

According to District Collector Shivam Verma, the local Health Department has deployed a team to monitor the situation closely. Verma stated, “Twenty-two people were detected with symptoms of jaundice in Mhow town of Indore district. Eight people are admitted to the hospital. A team from the Health Department has been sent to the site.” The health authorities are currently keeping an eye on the remaining individuals who are symptomatic to prevent further complications.

The recent surge in jaundice cases closely follows reports of contaminated drinking water in Bhagirathpura, a locality in Indore. These contamination incidents have led to public outcry and protests over the safety of the water supply. Local residents are voicing their concerns over the government’s handling of the situation, demanding accountability and urgent action.

On January 17, prominent Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited Indore, where he met with families affected by the contaminated water crisis. During his visit, he expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and those currently receiving treatment. Gandhi has accused the ruling BJP government of criminal negligence, asserting that the state must take responsibility for the health crisis. He called for immediate support and compensation for the affected families, emphasising the need for accountability in managing public health resources.

As the situation develops, health officials continue to investigate the source of the water contamination while ensuring that those affected receive the necessary care. The community’s reaction highlights growing frustration over public health infrastructure and the urgent need for improvements in water quality management to prevent future outbreaks.
