Hundreds of Indians Stranded in Dubai Amid Middle East Tensions

As conflict escalates in the Middle East, hundreds of Indians are currently stranded at Dubai International Airport and other regional airports. This situation has arisen following military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran, leading to widespread disruptions in flight operations to and from West Asia.

Numerous individuals, including families, tourists, and students, have turned to social media to seek assistance from the Indian government. Among those affected are S L Bhojegowda, a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council, and the well-known Bengali actor Subhashree Ganguly, who is stranded in Dubai with her son.

According to Amol Kataria, chairman of the Travel Agents Federation of India’s Madhya Pradesh unit, more than 700 individuals from Madhya Pradesh alone are unable to return to India due to flight cancellations. Many of these travelers had visited the UAE for tourism and business purposes.

Former MLA and BJP leader Sanjay Shukla is among those trapped in Dubai. In a social media post, he indicated that his return to India was thwarted by the temporary closure of Dubai airport, which has been affected by the ongoing international situation. He noted, “We are receiving full cooperation from the Dubai administration and the Government of India. We will return to Indore as soon as the situation normalises.”

Shukla also shared a video where he points out of a window, showing smoke rising after an explosion several kilometers away. He described the environment as increasingly precarious, stating, “The situation here has become bad. You can see that a bomb just exploded. All traffic has stopped. People here are being alerted and asked to stay in their rooms.”

The current unrest follows Iran’s retaliatory military strikes aimed at Israeli and American military bases across the region, which include the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan. As tensions continue to rise, the safety and well-being of those stranded remain a priority for both local authorities and the Indian government.

Travelers in Dubai are anxiously awaiting updates on their flights as the conflict unfolds. The situation serves as a stark reminder of the far-reaching impacts of geopolitical tensions on ordinary lives.
