Central Railway Schedules Special Blocks for Major Infrastructure Work
Central Railway (CR) is set to implement special traffic and power blocks on the UP and DOWN Main Lines between Panvel and Kalamboli during the night of January 25–26. This action is necessary to facilitate the launch of a substantial 110-meter open web girder, which weighs 1,500 metric tonnes and is part of the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation (DFCC) project.
In addition to this primary block, several other operations will occur concurrently. These include the placement of a temporary steel girder beneath the running line for subway construction at kilometer 67/55–57 in Panvel, the launching of a girder for a new foot overbridge (FOB) at Panvel station, and the removal of an existing dilapidated foot overbridge at kilometer 85/8–9 on the Panvel–Karjat section.
The blocks will be enforced from 1:20 am to 5:20 am in the Kalamboli–Panvel section, lasting approximately four hours.
Impact on Train Services
The scheduled works will result in various changes to train services. The 22193 Daund–Gwalior Express will be diverted via the Karjat–Kalyan–Vasai Road route. Additionally, the 20112 Madgaon–CSMT Konkan Kanya Express will be held at Somatane in Pune district from 3:52 am to 5:20 am.
Other affected services include the 12134 Mangalore–CSMT Express, which will be regulated at Apta in Raigad district from 2:50 am to 5:15 am. The 11004 Sawantwadi Road–Dadar Tutari Express will face regulation at Jite, Raigad, from 4:14 am to 5:10 am. The 12620 Mangalore–LTT Mumbai Matsyaganda Express will be delayed at Pen from 4:32 am to 5:05 am.
Moreover, the 10103 CSMT–Madgaon Mandovi Express will now depart from CSMT (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus) at 8:20 am, and the 17317 Hubballi–Dadar Express is expected to experience a delay of approximately 15–20 minutes due to these regulations.
Central Railway has indicated that these blocks are essential for ongoing infrastructure maintenance and passenger safety. They have urged passengers to plan their journeys accordingly and to remain patient as the railway administration works to enhance rail service reliability.
Upcoming Mega Block Announcement
In addition to the aforementioned blocks, Central Railway announced plans for a mega block between Matunga and Mulund, affecting both the Main Line and the Harbour line on January 25, 2026. This initiative is aimed at conducting necessary engineering and maintenance work in the suburban sections. Passengers should expect diversions, delays, and the suspension of some services during this period.
Overall, these infrastructure projects reflect Central Railway’s commitment to improving railway operations and ensuring the safety of all passengers.
