Army Public School in Delhi Evacuated After Bomb Threat Alert
The Army Public School in Delhi Cantonment was evacuated on February 19, 2024, after receiving a bomb threat via email. Security agencies promptly initiated a search operation on the school grounds, according to a spokesperson from the Delhi Fire Services. The school administration alerted authorities early in the morning following the alarming message that warned of an explosive device on the premises.
A senior police officer provided an update on the situation, stating, “We are verifying the source of the email. So far, nothing suspicious has been found. As a precautionary measure, a thorough search operation is underway on the school premises, which has been vacated.” The police have engaged their cyber cell to trace the origin of the email and identify the sender. Teams from the Delhi Police, the bomb disposal squad, canine units, and the fire department are actively involved in the ongoing investigation.
Increased Security Measures Following Intelligence Alerts
The bomb threat comes in the wake of heightened security protocols across Delhi. On February 21, 2024, authorities increased vigilance around key religious and heritage sites, including the Red Fort and areas in Chandni Chowk. This precautionary measure was prompted by intelligence reports indicating a potential terror threat.
The Delhi Police received intelligence inputs suggesting that the Pakistan-based terror organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) has targeted prominent religious sites in India. Early on February 21, central intelligence agencies warned of a possible explosion threat near the Red Fort, a major tourist attraction and a high-security area. Sources indicated that specific intelligence suggested a temple in the Chandni Chowk area could be a potential target.
According to reports, the threat may be linked to LeT’s alleged intention to carry out an attack using an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). This plan is reportedly connected to efforts by the group to retaliate for a recent incident involving a blast at a mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan, which occurred on February 6, 2024.
In response to these threats, security measures have been intensified, including increased surveillance through CCTV monitoring and additional personnel deployed at vulnerable locations across the national capital. Vehicle checks are also being conducted to ensure public safety.
The ongoing situation highlights the need for vigilance in maintaining security and the collaborative efforts of various agencies to address potential threats effectively. As investigations continue, authorities remain on high alert to ensure the safety of residents and visitors in the area.
