PV Sindhu Stranded at Dubai Airport as Flights Grounded Amid US-Israel Strikes on Iran
As tensions escalate in the Middle East due to military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran, Indian badminton star PV Sindhu found herself stranded at Dubai Airport. The double Olympic medallist was en route to participate in the prestigious All England Open, set to begin on March 3, 2026, in Birmingham, UK. All flights have been suspended indefinitely, complicating travel plans for many, including Sindhu and her team.
Sindhu shared her experience on social media, posting a video that captured the chaotic atmosphere at the airport. She commented, “All flights suspended until further notice,” highlighting the unsettling conditions. In a subsequent update, the 30-year-old expressed her feelings about the rapidly escalating situation. “It’s hard to process what’s unfolding right now,” she wrote on her X account, referencing the unsettling sounds of military activity above.
In her message, Sindhu described the scenes around her, noting the fear among travelers. “So many disturbing videos are coming to light, and this is sadly the reality of what is happening,” she stated. “Dubai is a city I deeply love, a place that has always felt safe and full of life, which makes this moment even harder to comprehend.”
While assuring her followers of her safety, Sindhu acknowledged the anxiety shared by many at the airport. “Airports are chaotic, with many families stranded and waiting,” she wrote. “We’re all just hoping we get past this soon. I’m sure the authorities are doing everything in their power, and like everyone here, we’re holding on to patience and hope.” She concluded her message with a reminder of the fragility of normal life, expressing her prayers for safety and peace for those affected by the conflict.
The ongoing military strikes, initiated by the US and Israel, have led to significant disruptions in air travel across the region. President Joe Biden has called on the Iranian public to challenge the current leadership, escalating the conflict. As a result, airspace in the Gulf region has been closed, impacting numerous flights, including those operated by Air India and Emirates. Air India announced the cancellation of all flights to and from the Gulf region, specifically targeting major destinations such as Abu Dhabi, Dammam, Doha, Dubai, Jeddah, Muscat, Riyadh, and Tel Aviv.
The situation remains fluid, with the military operations prompting significant concern among travelers and residents alike. Sindhu’s predicament serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly circumstances can change in times of geopolitical tension, affecting lives and plans around the world.
