Netherlands Clinches Victory Over Namibia with De Leede’s Explosive 72
The Netherlands secured their first victory in the T20 World Cup 2026 with a commanding seven-wicket win against Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on February 10, 2026. This victory not only boosted the Dutch team’s morale following a heartbreaking loss to Pakistan but also kept their hopes alive for progressing to the Super 8 stage of the tournament.
All-rounder Bas de Leede played a pivotal role in the match, scoring a match-winning 72 runs off 48 balls. His innings included four sixes and five fours, helping the Netherlands chase down the 159-run target with two overs to spare. The performance of De Leede was a highlight for the Dutch side, whose previous match ended in disappointment when they lost to Pakistan by three wickets.
Record-Setting Performance
With this victory, the Netherlands set a remarkable record, achieving their 11th win in T20 World Cup history, the most by any Associate nation. Scotland follows with eight wins, while Afghanistan holds five. This milestone underscores the growing competitiveness of the Netherlands in the international cricket arena.
Captain Scott Edwards won the toss and opted to bowl first, a decision that paid off as the Dutch bowlers effectively restricted Namibia to 156 runs for eight wickets. The bowling attack featured eight different bowlers, with Logan van Beek bouncing back from his previous match troubles to take two wickets for just 13 runs in three overs. De Leede also contributed with the ball, taking two wickets for 20 runs.
De Leede’s batting performance was particularly impressive, as he reached his half-century in just 38 balls. His aggressive playing style shifted the momentum firmly in favor of the Netherlands. He shared a crucial partnership of 70 runs for the second wicket with Colin Ackerman, who contributed 32 runs off 28 balls.
Looking Ahead
Following this victory, the Netherlands now sits on two points in the group, alongside India and Pakistan. They will face the USA next in Chennai on February 13, while Namibia prepares to take on co-hosts India in New Delhi on February 12.
De Leede, whose father Tim de Leede was also a prominent figure in Dutch cricket, has now scored a total of 353 runs in just 10 innings for the Netherlands, boasting an extraordinary average of 176.5 and a strike rate of 132.7 in winning matches. His recent performances reflect a player in peak form, ready to lead his team further in the tournament.
As the competition progresses, the Netherlands looks to build on this momentum and solidify their place among the elite teams in the T20 format.
