India Secures Hosting Rights for 2027 Asian Shooting Championship

India has been awarded the hosting rights for the Asian Rifle/Pistol Championship 2027, which will take place in New Delhi. This prestigious event will grant eight quota places for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, marking a significant opportunity for Indian shooters ahead of two major competitions scheduled for next year.

The announcement was made by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) on February 2, 2026, following a letter from H.E. Eng. Duaij AlOtaibi, Secretary General of the Asian Shooting Confederation (ASC). This championship will represent the second consecutive occasion that India hosts this continental event, showcasing the country’s growing status as a prominent venue for international shooting competitions.

Significant Milestone for Indian Shooters

The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) previously allocated the ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun to be held in New Delhi in April 2027, providing an additional twelve quota places for the upcoming Olympics.

Commenting on the announcement, Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, President of the NRAI, stated, “This will be a significant boost to Indian shooters on their road to LA, as they will have two events with home advantage spread across the year to win quota places.” He expressed gratitude towards Eng. AlOtaibi and his team at ASC for their continued confidence in India’s capability to host world-class shooting events.

The Secretary General of the NRAI, Pawankumar Singh, emphasized the importance of teamwork in securing the championship. He noted, “This is the result of the tireless efforts made by our entire team at NRAI, and I want to congratulate all of them for this big win.” Singh also highlighted the vital support received from the Sports Authority of India, the Ministry of Sports, and the Government of India, which has contributed to India’s emerging reputation as a preferred destination for elite shooting competitions.

Building a Legacy in Sport Shooting

India is increasingly recognized as a global hub for sport shooting. The country achieved notable success at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where Indian shooters secured three of the nation’s eight medals. Following this achievement, top-tier international competitions have been hosted regularly at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Ranges.

The recent season-ending ISSF World Cup Final in October 2024 was complemented by the ISSF Junior World Cup Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun held in September 2025. These events reflect the nation’s commitment to fostering a robust shooting sports culture and preparing athletes for future challenges on the world stage.
